If you take a look at our list of the best headphones, you’ll notice that two models are at the top: the Sony WH-1000XM6 and the Apple AirPods Max. These are both amazing, but they are also pricey. Luckily, there are some nice deals on both of them today. Keep reading to learn the details!

Buy the Sony WH-1000XM6 and get a free $30 gift card for $448 ($31.99 off)

Buy the Apple AirPods Max for $479.99 ($69.01 off)

These offers both come from Amazon, but they are different in nature. The Sony deal gets you a free $30 gift card. On the other hand, the Apple AirPods Max discount is automatic and has no extra implications.

Sony WH-1000XM6 and get a free $30 gift card

If we had to pick one set of cans that is the best for most users, it would definitely be the Sony WH-1000XM6. We haven’t seen any actual discounts on these, and we don’t expect to see that anytime soon, as the headphones only launched last month. That said, you get a free $30 gift card with your purchase right now, which is certainly a nice incentive if you were already considering buying these cans.

We loved the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones. They excel in almost all departments, and offer an amazing overall experience. For starters, the audio quality is outstanding, as is the ANC performance. In fact, they are among the best in the industry in both departments. Even the microphone performs amazingly.

A photo of the Sony WH-1000XM6 in its travel case.
These are not cheap and are considered high-end headphones, so you can assume they come with a bevy of great features. These include Bluetooth Multipoint, spatial audio, gesture controls, access to a 10-band equalizer, DSEE Extreme support, and more. Even the battery life is impressive, offering 37 hours per charge, based on our standardized tests.

This is still the best offer we’ve seen on the Sony WH-100XM6 so far. If you’re already considering buying one, the price is unlikely to drop anytime soon, so you might as well take advantage of this free $30 Amazon gift card!

Apple AirPods Max

While the Sony WH-1000XM6 are our favorite headphones overall, we also usually recommend the Apple AirPods Max as the best option for those invested in the Apple ecosystem. These are not cheap, but right now, the Midnight colo model is only $479.99. (All other colors cost $499.99).

The Apple AirPods Max also have impressive sound quality and ANC performance, and they compete only against the best headphones out there (including the Sony ones listed above).

You’ll also get Apple’s iconic minimalist design, constructed with metal. The large earcups are soft and comfortable, and the fabric headband looks and feels great too.

AirPods Max Lilac on table

Of course, these also come with plenty of features, but you must keep in mind that many of them are exclusive to Apple devices. These include auto-pausing, auto device switching, gestures, and Siri support.

Based on our tests, the battery life won’t be as good as Sony’s, but it is still pretty decent at about 21 hours. That said, this was actually a bit of a surprise to us, because Apple estimates a 20-hour battery life, so the brand outdid itself.

Our only real issue with the Apple AirPods Max is their price, but this discount makes the purchase a bit more justifiable.

Make sure to catch these deals sooner rather than later. We can only assume they won’t last too long.

The Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones only launched a month ago, and they are already at the top of our list of the best headphones available. Given their popularity, it makes sense that Sony needs to give people no incentives for these to fly off the shelves. Today is your lucky day! While not exactly discounted, you can walk out with a free $30 gift card if you buy the Sony WH-1000XM6.

Buy the Sony WH-1000XM6 with a free $30 gift card for $448 ($31.99 off)

This offer is available from Amazon. The deal applies to all color versions available, including Black, Midnight Blue, and Platinum Silver.

As mentioned above, we haven’t seen any real discounts on the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones yet. While we will have to wait for that, it’s nice to see at least some kind of offering so soon after the headphones were launched. This $30 gift card is a nice little incentive if you were already considering getting these.

The Sony WH-1000XM6 are no joke! We have crowned these as the top option in our list of the best headphones. There are multiple reasons behind this decision. These excel in many departments and offer an impressive overall experience.

Let’s start with audio. The sound quality on these is outstanding, and the ANC performance is up there with the best in the industry. These are a great option if you want to enjoy your tunes with no distractions from the outside world. We even loved the microphone’s performance, also making these ideal for calls.

A top-down photo of the Sony WH-1000XM6.
As expected, these premium headphones come with plenty of features. They have Bluetooth Multipoint, spatial audio, gesture controls, a 10-band equalizer, DSEE extreme support, a volume limiter option, and more. Even the battery life is outstanding, at over 37 hours on a full charge, based on our standardized tests.

Again, this is the best deal we’ve seen on the Sony WH-1000XM6. We don’t expect any better sales soon, honestly, so this is likely your best chance to score some kind of deal on these premium headphones.

While there are plenty of amazing headphones and earbuds out there, we usually recommend Apple audio gear to those of you invested in the Apple ecosystem. It just makes more sense, and Apple products fare very well against the competition. Apple AirPods Max: The best Apple headphones

If you’re looking for the very best audio quality and experience from Apple, the AirPods Max are the obvious option. We gave these plenty of praise in our Apple AirPods Max review, and they are even listed as the top option for Apple users in our list of the best headphones.

These headphones offer that clean, metallic design Apple is now known for. They look and feel amazing, and we also found them to be very comfortable. The earpads and fabric band are soft, not to mention they look great.

It’s not just great looks that make these outstanding headphones, though. They are pricey, high-end cans, after all! You’ll enjoy impressive audio quality and ANC performance that competes only against the top choices.

Purple AirPods Max headphones next to their case.

These also come with plenty of extra features, including auto-pausing, automatic device switching, gesture controls, Siri support, and more. However, many of these capabilities are Apple-exclusive. Just keep that in mind.

Like all other headphones, the AirPods Max passed our standardized tests. Their battery life was pretty good, at 21 hours. While not the best in this category, these actually surpassed our expectations, as Apple promises 20 hours of battery life.

Do they have any downsides? Well, they are very expensive, but the price is a bit more comfortable right now. Additionally, they are large over-the-ear headphones, and we know many of you prioritize portability. If you want something you can easily carry around, read the next section!

Apple AirPods Pro 2: The best Apple earbuds

The Apple AirPods Pro 2 are the best earbuds coming from the brand. These offer awesome sound quality and very competent ANC performance.

These are small and portable, and they feature a very comfortable fit, thanks to the rubber tips. These help both block out external sound and provide a secure fit. You would have to try hard for these to fall off your ears.

TKTK

You’ll enjoy all the great features high-end Apple audio gear has to offer. These include automatic device switching, spatial audio, auto-pausing, wireless charging, and more.

A huge benefit of these is that they are actually IP54-rated, which means they offer a nice level of dust and water resistance. Battery life is also pretty good at five hours and 43 minutes, and the case provides an extra 24 hours of listening time.

Regardless of which model you pick, you’ll love how well these will work with your Apple devices. There’s really no going wrong with either version. Which is best for you depends on your form factor preferences, really.

Are you looking for an amazing pair of headphones? Quality audio can be pricey! We know it can get terrifying to look at their prices, but today we have a couple of deals that will soften the blow. The Bose QuietComfort Ultra and Sony WH-1000XM5 are among the most respected cans in the industry, and you can get either of them for under $300 right now.

Buy the Bose QuietComfort Ultra in Lunar Blue for $299 ($130 off)

Buy the Sony WH-1000XM5 for $298 ($101.99 off)

The Bose offer comes from Woot!, an Amazon-owned deals website. It only applies to the Luner Blue color version. On the other hand, the Sony discount is available from Amazon, and it applies to all color versions available.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra

First, let’s talk about the main limitation here. Only the Lunar Blue color model of the Bose QuietComfort Ultra is $299. This means you’ll have to like that color before even considering this pair of cans. That said, I happen to really like this color! If you do too, keep reading.

The Bose QuietComfort Ultra are amazing headphones that only compete with the best out there. They offer excellent audio quality, the design is gorgeous, and the build is solid. Battery life isn’t astounding, but it is really good at about 27 hours per charge, according to our internal tests.

The Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones have a matte exterior.

These also come with a plethora of great features, such as Bluetooth Multipoint, Snapdragon Sound, aptX Lossless, gesture controls, spatial audio, and more.

What really makes these headphones stand out, though, is the ANC performance. In fact, these are still our top option on our list of the best noise canceling headphones. It’s quite impressive, really. These can block external noise by 87%, with the ability to quiet noises like bus engines, airplane whines, and train screeches. Even the passthrough mode is quite outstanding!

If you want he best ANC the audio market has to offer, these headphones have no match yet.

Sony WH-1000XM5

The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones are no longer the latest and greatest. These have been succeeded by the Sony WH-1000XM6. That said, the previous-generation headphones are still amazing, and they led our list of the best headphones for years. And something great about them being “older” is that they are very nicely discounted!

The sound quality on these is fantastic, and the ANC performance is still outstanding. These are the two main considerations when picking headphones, and the XM5s do great in both departments. Even the microphone sounds great, making them a great option for video calls and calls. It helps that they are very comfortable, because you can wear them for long listening sessions.

The design is clean and minimalist, and they honestly look very similar to the newer model. And while older, these are high-end headphones with plenty of fun features. You still get touch controls, Bluetooth Multipoint, Find My Device support, and more.

These also excel in the battery life department. Based on our internal tests, they will last about 32 hours with ANC enabled. Get this, though: if you disable ANC, the battery life is extended to a whopping 53 hours!

Regardless of which option you choose, you’ll walk away with fabulous headphones. Just make sure to act quickly—we’re not sure how long these deals will last!

The best part of the Sony WH-1000 XM6 launch: Savings on previous models! https://www.soundguys.com/sony-wh-1000-xm5-xm4-deals-138432/ https://www.soundguys.com/sony-wh-1000-xm5-xm4-deals-138432/?noamp=mobile#respond Tue, 20 May 2025 02:39:40 +0000 https://www.soundguys.com/sony-wh-1000-xm5-xm4-deals-138432/ Top-down view of Sony WH-1000XM5 beside the Sony WH-1000XM4 on a metal surface

The Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones are all the hype, but personally, I am not that excited about paying $449.99 for a pair of cans. To me, the most exciting part of this launch is that the previous models are on sale! You can get the Sony WH-1000XM5 for $298, and the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones are only $228. You are saving over $100 on these headphones, and they are still awesome!

Buy the Sony WH-1000XM5 for just $298 ($101.99 off)

Buy the Sony WH-1000XM4 for just $228 ($120 off)

These offers are available from Amazon. Regardless of which model you pick, the discount applies to all color versions available.

Sony WH-1000XM5

Originally priced at $399.99, this deal saves you $101.99, making it one of the best prices we’ve seen on the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones in a while. They were the top option in our list of the best headphones for years, pretty much until the XM6 model was released, just last week.

They are known for their impressive audio quality and outstanding ANC performance. The design is very similar to the newer iteration. These will still look modern, and most people won’t even notice you’re using previous-gen headphones.

Another critical factor is battery life. While the XM6 have a better battery life at 37 hours and 14 minutes, the XM5 can handle about 32 hours on a full charge. And if you turn off ANC, that number gets extended to an impressive 53 hours!

Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones laying flat on wooden table.

Of course, these cans still come with an ample set of fancy features. They launched as high-end headphones, after all. These capabilities include Bluetooth Multipoint, touch gestures, Find My Device support,

You’ll obviously still get a nice set of premium features, such as Bluetooth Multipoint, touch gestures, a handy EQ in the official app, and even Find My Device support. These lack USB-C listening, but the new model does too. In either case, you can listen wired using the 3.5mm headset jack.

All things considered, diminishing returns are real in the audio industry. The Sony WH-1000XM6 may be better, but are they worth paying over $150 more? I wouldn’t say so. If you want a more in-depth comparison, here’s our Sony WH-1000XM6 vs Sony WH-1000XM5 article.

Our own Adam Birney summarizes it perfectly: “For most users, the XM6 is a better product—but the XM5 remains the better deal.”

Sony WH-1000XM4

Now, if you really want to save, you should probably get the Sony WH-1000XM4, which are currently only $228. That’s a $120 discount on the full $348 price point! These offer the best bang per buck, because they are actually really good, and don’t fall far behind the two newer models. These headphones are still quite impressive in 2025.

The audio quality is still great. While not as amazing, the ANC performance is still really good for most listeners. Keep in mind these were also launched as high-end headphones, so the experience is premium. The design is clean and minimalist, and they are build very solidly.

You won’t miss out on many features, either. These headphones still have Bluetooth Multipoint, auto pausing, touch gesture controls, and more. The battery life does suffer a bit, but you still get a good 24 hours per charge.

Here’s an in-depth comparison between the Sony WH-1000XM6 and the Sony WH-1000XM4.

I am all about saving money. Both the Sony WH-1000XM5 and the Sony WH-1000XM4 are fantastic if you prefer to stretch your dollar further, as well. Just make sure to act quickly, because we don’t know how long these deals will last, or if stock will run out soon.

Save $69 on the Apple AirPods Max if you pick this color! https://www.soundguys.com/apple-airpods-max-starlight-deal-137632/ https://www.soundguys.com/apple-airpods-max-starlight-deal-137632/?noamp=mobile#respond Wed, 07 May 2025 02:20:44 +0000 https://www.soundguys.com/apple-airpods-max-starlight-deal-137632/ Apple AirPods Max in Starlight

The Apple AirPods Max are still our favorite option for iPhone users, in our list of the best headphones. These are stunning, but they are also among the priciest consumer audio products, so it’s always nice to look for a good deal on them. Well, if you’re happy to get the Starlight color version, you can get the Apple AirPods Max at a $69.01 discount, bringing the price down to $479.99.

Buy the Apple AirPods Max in Starlight for $479.99 ($69.01 off)

This offer is available from Amazon, and maximum savings apply only to the Starlight color version. All other color models are $499.99, which is arguably still a good deal.

By the way, these are the Apple AirPods Max USB-C, so you’re getting the more modern and standard port. We really like the Apple AirPods Max, but one of our main complaints is honestly the high $549 price tag. At $479.99, the deal is getting nicer, even if it’s still a hefty investment. However, if you were already considering getting these, this is your chance.

These offer a clean, metallic design that is iconic of Apple products and that we know many of you love. They are also super comfortable, mostly thanks to the soft earpads and fabric band.

Of course, the Apple AirPods Max excel everywhere else. You’re not buying these headphones for looks alone, after all! They also feature stunning audio quality that competes only against the best in the industry. Even the ANC performance is impressive. Not to mention, you’ll get a bevy of additional premium features, such as auto-pausing, automatic device switching between Apple devices, gesture controls, Siri support, and more.

Based on our standardized tests, battery life is pretty good, at about 21 hours per charge. That is actually a nice discovery, as Apple promises a 20-hour battery life. This means they actually surpassed expectations, which is rare.

If you’re invested in the Apple ecosystem, it’s really hard to beat the Apple AirPods Max. Catch this deal while you can!

Hot audio gear deals from JBL, Bose, Google, and Marshall https://www.soundguys.com/jbl-bose-google-marshall-speakers-earbuds-deals-137332/ https://www.soundguys.com/jbl-bose-google-marshall-speakers-earbuds-deals-137332/?noamp=mobile#respond Fri, 02 May 2025 01:25:46 +0000 https://www.soundguys.com/jbl-bose-google-marshall-speakers-earbuds-deals-137332/ A JBL Flip 6 Bluetooth speaker sitting on wet sand by the ocean.

Are you in the market for some new audio gear? I try to avoid paying full price for anything, and if you’re a saver like me, today we have a few deals you may want to consider. They include speakers and earbuds from JBL, Bose, Google, and Marshall. Let’s get right to the nitty gritty!

Buy the JBL Flip 6 for $79.95 ($50 off)

Buy the Bose SoundLink Flex for $119 ($30 off)

Buy the Google Pixel Buds A-Series for $59 ($40 off)

Buy the Marshall Tufton for $120.99 ($120.99 off)

The JBL offer is available from Woot.com, an Amazon-owned deals website. Meanwhile, all other offers come directly from Amazon. Some have variations, and certain discounts aren’t available for specific color versions. We will expand on each deal and its stipulations in the sections below.

JBL Flip 6

The JBL Flip 6 may not be the latest and greatest of its kind anymore, as the JBL Flip 7 is already out, but it is still a portable speaker we know many of you will enjoy. Here’s our JBL Flip 7 vs JBL Flip 6 comparison, if you want to get a better idea of the differences. That said, at $79.95, the argument against upgrading is getting much stronger.

The JBL Flip 6 still sounds great, is pretty loud, and it comes with an IP67 rating. While not as rugged as the JBL Flip 7 and its IP68 rating, an IP67 rating is still plenty good. Learn more about IP ratings here, to see the difference. Spoiler: it likely won’t make a difference to most of you.

Another argument against upgrading is that the JBL Flip 7 has migrated to Auracast, which only works with the newest JBL speakers. If you have older JBL speakers that use PartyBoost, the newer model won’t work nicely with those. The JBL Flip 6 plays nicely with other PartyBoost speakers for multi-speaker playback.

If you’re looking for a nice, portable speaker that is resistant to the elements, this deal is hard to beat.

Bose SoundLink Flex

We know many of you love Bose audio gear, and the Bose SoundLink Flex happens to be our favorite speaker from the brand. This one is also pretty resistant, offering an IP67 rating. This makes it another great alternative for outdoor listening.

Sound quality remains one of its strongest selling points, as well. Enhancements like PositionIQ tech automatically adjust sound based on the speaker’s orientation. We really like its EQ app capabilities, which offers nice customization to meet your preferences.

When we reviewed the Bose SoundLink Flex (2nd gen), we also loved that it was upgraded to Bluetooth 5.3, with support for the aptX coded. This makes for both a stronger connection and higher audio quality, as long as you have a compatible device connected to it.

It also helps that, even at its full retail price, this speaker is very reasonably priced. This deal is only a cherry on top, really.

Google Pixel Buds A-Series

The Google Pixel Buds A-Series are a nice deal if you want Google earbuds at a lower price point. They have a pretty nice set of features, such as the signature clean Google design, good touch controls, and an IPX4 rating. The fit is also pretty comfortable.

They don’t sound amazing, but the audio quality is decent. Additionally, these integrate very well with Android devices, especially if you use a Pixel phone. Battery life is also pretty decent, at four hours and 44 minutes per charge.

At $59, the Google Pixel Buds A-Series are cheaper than we’ve ever seen them go for in the past. This is a great offer, especially considering they are already budget earbuds from the get-go.

Marshall Tufton

While not as popular as other brands, there is a very special spot in my heart for Marshall audio gear. The thing is that its speakers tend to be much more expensive than comparable ones from other popular brands. Those designs are stunning, though, and as much as we would like to deny it, looks sure play a part when making a decision. The Marshall Tufton is gorgeous, and while expensive, right now you can get it at a more reasonable price of $322.45.

This is Marshall’s best portable speaker. It runs on battery and can last over 209 hours on a full charge. You can use the handle to take it wherever you go. It’s a bit on the larger side, though, measuring 9.02 x 6.42 x 13.78in. It also weighs 10.8lbs.

The size and weight can be justified once you consider it is a pretty good speaker, though. It has a 40W woofer, two 15W full-range drivers, and a 10W tweeter. Like all Marshalkl speakers, this one is good for good quality audio and a loud volume.

It helps that it will look gorgeous in any environment. Marshall is also known for its excellent build quality, and this one won’t be the exception. It has an IPX2 rating, which isn’t great, but it should keep your speaker safe from some light liquid exposure.

We’re not sure how long these deals will last, so act quickly and catch these discounts while you can. If you want to check out other affordable alternatives, here are our lists of the best cheap Bluetooth speakers and the best earbuds under $100.

I’d rather get the JBL Charge 5 for $110 than upgrade to the Charge 6! https://www.soundguys.com/jbl-charge-5-deal-136921/ https://www.soundguys.com/jbl-charge-5-deal-136921/?noamp=mobile#respond Sat, 26 Apr 2025 10:41:27 +0000 https://www.soundguys.com/jbl-charge-5-deal-136921/ JBL Charge 5 speaker placed on some mossy rocks in a forest.

The JBL Charge 6 is the top choice in our list of the best Bluetooth speakers. Is it worth the $199.95 full retail price when you can get the predecessor for just $109.95, though? If you asked me, I would rather save my $90 bucks and get the JBL Charge 5 instead!

Buy the JBL Charge 5 Bluetooth speaker for just $109.95 ($70 off)

This offer is available from Woot.com, an Amazon-owned deals website. As of the time of writing this post, it is only available in Red. The Blue version also had the same discounted price, but it is now out of stock. This sale will be active for four more days or “until sold out.”

As we mentioned above, we love the new JBL Charge 6, and you can read all about it in our full JBL Charge 6 review. It’s amazing and comes with a handful of significant upgrades. In fact, in our JBL Charge 6 vs JBL Charge 5 comparison, we mention it might be best to get the newer model, but that is assuming the JBL Charge 5 is at its usual discounted price of around $160. The situation looks very different if you can get the JBL Charge 5 for just $109.95.

The JBL Charge 5 still has outstanding sound quality, impressive durability, and a really good battery life. It has an IP67 rating and will do great as an outdoor speaker you can easily take with you on your adventures. And while the JBL Charge 6’s battery life is better at about 24 hours, the JBL Charge 5 can still last 20 hours on a full charge.

A man holds a JBL Charge 6 in his left hand, and a JBL Charge 5 in his left hand, showing their control panels.

JBL Charge 5 vs JBL Charge 6

Furthermore, the JBL Charge 5 still has cool features like Bluetooth Multipoint. You can even use it to charge other devices using the USB-A port.

By the way, if you already own other JBL speakers, you might prefer the older Charge 5 speaker. The older model supports PartyBoost, making it possible to listen with multiple JBL speakers simultaneously. The JBL Charge 6 has switched to Auracast.

All things considered, the JBL Charge 5 is still a great Bluetooth speaker. At just $109.95, the bang-per-buck ratio is also much, much more enticing. Go get yours before they run out!

Sony WH-1000XM5

The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones and their direct predecessors have been highly regarded as some of the best around. The latest model is fantastic, and these are listed as the top option in our list of the best headphones available. They are usually quite pricey, but we’re here to let you know whenever the price drops!

You’ll enjoy an amazing experience across the board. The sound quality is excellent, and the ANC performance is among the best in the industry. These also come with a healthy portfolio of features. These include Bluetooth Multipoint, touch gestures, Find My Device support, auto-pausing, and more.

As any premium set of headphones should, these feature a very nice design and build quality. They look clean and minimalist. The earpads are also large and comfortable, making these headphones great for long listening sessions.

By the way, these can last for long listening sessions, too! The battery life is quite impressive. Based on our standardized tests, they last 31 hours with ANC enabled. Things get much more impressive if you turn off noise canceling, though. The battery life extends to an impressive 53 hours!

Apple AirPods Max

Now, while we recommend the Sony WH-1000XM5 to most people, one exception is Apple users. If you are well-invested in the Apple ecosystem, you’re better off going with the Apple AirPods Max. In this case, it’s the latest USB-C version.

The Apple AirPods Max are excellent headphones, too. They offer a gorgeous, super sleek metallic design that the competition has a hard time matching. These are also very comfortable, thanks to the soft earpads and top band.

The audio quality is also outstanding, and so is the ANC performance. They compete very closely with Sony’s flagship headphones. Of course, these are high-end cans with a bunch of cool features, too. Some of these are Apple-exclusive, though. Such capabilities include auto-pausing, certain gestures, automatic device switching, and Siri support.

Battery life isn’t quite as impressive, but it is decent at about 21 hours per full charge. That said, those results actually surpass Apple’s estimates, which mention the headphones should last 20 hours.

Again, these are the best headphones for most users. You really can’t go wrong with them. Our only real complaints with these are the high price points; today’s deals help with that. Go get yours while they are still on sale!

JBL Tune 520BT deal: These headphones are way too good for just $37.71 https://www.soundguys.com/jbl-tune-520bt-deal-135410/ https://www.soundguys.com/jbl-tune-520bt-deal-135410/?noamp=mobile#respond Fri, 04 Apr 2025 21:40:23 +0000 https://www.soundguys.com/jbl-tune-520bt-deal-135410/ A photo of the purple JBL Tune 520BT atop a wooden desk.

Audiophiles and sound enthusiasts would never consider headphones that cost this little. Hear us out for a bit, though. Every now and then, affordable headphones take us by surprise, and these are among those unicorns that for outperform their price. We would actually recommend these at their full $49.95 price point, and they are currently on sale for a mere $37.71.

Get the JBL Tune 520BT for only $37.71 ($12.24 off)

This offer is available from Amazon. The $37.71 price is only available for the Black color version. All other color models are slightly more expensive at $39.95.

So, what is it that makes these seemingly unexciting headphones so unique? Here’s the deal. We test all worthy headphones that come to market, and put them through a set of tests to see where they stand. One of these tests is the MDAQS (Multi-Dimensional Audio Quality Score) test. If you want a deeper dive into what it measures, you can learn all about the MDAQS scoring system here. In summary, it tells us how good audio quality is, based on average listener preferences.

Here’s the surprising part: The JBL Tune 520BT headphones scored the highest of all wireless headphones released in 2024. Mind you, it went up against headphones that cost several hundred dollars. It beat industry-leading headphones like the Sony ULT Wear, Sonos Ace, and even the $699 Bowers & Wilkins PX8. It sounds kind of unbelievable, but you can’t argue with objective tests. If you want to see more about these results, here’s our full 2024 audio gear report.

That said, these $37.71 headphones are a great option if you want good sound quality at a bargain price. They also have other things going for them. We really liked their portability, and the colors are very fun. Furthermore, the JBL Tune 520BT battery life is kind of impressive. Our tests yielded results of 60 hours and 52 minutes per full charge!

It’s not all rainbows and sunshine with these headphones, though. Of course, manufacturers must make some sacrifices to offer good headphones at such a low price. The main issue with these is that we found them a bit uncomfortable for long listening sessions. The on-ear design isn’t very comfy if you’re used to over-the-ear cans, and the clamping force is a bit too tight. Furthermore, it has a plasticky construction that feels fat from premium.

We were also a bit confused by another factor. For some extraneous reason, you need the app in order to connect the JBL Tune 520BT to iOS or Android mobile devices. Seriously, like, you can’t just turn on Bluetooth and connect them. Odd, but you do get Bluetooth Multipoint support, which is a very nice treat at these price levels! Even expensive headphones sometimes don’t get this capability.

All things considered, you’re definitely getting much more than what you pay for. We’d say these are fabulous headphones if you want good sound, but don’t want to invest too much on expensive headphones. I would totally get these if I wanted to use them only occasionally, or they could be a great gift for a kid or casual user.

At this price, they could even be a great pair of secondary headphones. You know, the ones you take to the streets during commutes, trips, or any situation in which you might give them more torture than usual. I could keep the fancy ones safe and sound, on my desk.
